Cambodia is located in the southern region of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It has a population of over 14.8 million with the official religion being Theravada Buddhism and over the last decade, has evolved into one of the most economically prosperous nations in Asia, stemming from a robust tourism industry, foreign investments and strong international trade.
Prospectivity and Mining History
Cambodia’s mineral resources remained largely unexplored until the early 2000’s when foreign investors and companies from countries such as Australia, China and the United States started to express their interest in Cambodia’s natural resource potential. Prevalent commodities in Cambodia include copper, gold, iron, zinc, lead, tin and bauxite.
Cambodia’s mining industry is, while still in its infancy, gathering momentum. Cambodian law allows for wholly foreign-owned enterprises to receive licenses, so various foreign companies are operating on their own in addition to many local companies covering the country.
