Myanmar is rich sovereign state in Southeast Asia bordered by Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand. It has a population of over 60 million with the majority following Theravada Buddhism. In recent years the country has made transitions from a military run government to a civilian democracy.
Prospectivity and Mining History
The country is rich in mineral resources including copper, tin, zinc, gold, silver, tungsten and chromium, as well as jade, gems, oil and natural gas. In 1989, the Myanmar government adopted an ‘open-door’ policy and a liberal foreign investment law to encourage participation of foreign companies in the exploration and development of Myanmar’s national resources; however, mining was mostly undertaken by local companies since that time. More recently there have been amendments to laws concerning foreign investment and it now appears possible that the mining industry in Myanmar will soon see a renewed interest in the country.
Indodrill has maintained a presence in the country since 2013. It will soon establish an office and holding yard in Yangon.
